Ah, December. The month of giving. The month of joy and peace. And the month to indulge in deliciously fattening bakery treats.

One of Mexico’s most popular treats, consumed on an everyday basis, and found in just about every PanaderĂa (bakery) and any grocery store throughout the whole country, the Polvorone is a melt-in-your mouth shortbread-like cookie that comes in many flavors: plain, pecan, peanut, vanilla, cinnamon and even chocolate, to name some. We went for almonds.
Since the cookie is so light, almonds add a nice and nutty depth of flavor, as well as an extra crunch.
