February Cookie of the Month: Fortune Cookies

What cookie combines Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day? A chocolate-dipped, pink sprinkle-covered fortune cookie with homemade messages of love written inside. Such was February's cookie of the month to the kids' grandfathers. We hope they enjoyed them!

A snowy start to February, part II

It was supposed to be our trip to find snow. But snow (ie, Winter Storm Nemo) found us. We were hiding out in a small cabin in the Poconos last weekend, a cabin that we booked after deciding a few weeks ago that our our relatively snowless winter was disappointing and that the kids deserved a snowy weekend of tubing and hot cocoa. We kept the cabin, even though we could have tubed in our neighborhood, and had a great time. Here is proof:

When we reached the bottom, E turned around, crying, with so much snow in her face that her eyes were completely covered. I felt so bad for her, but god it was funny.

A snowy start to February, part I

We couldn't contain the merriment when Brooklyn got its first bit of snow in early February. There was so much joy in our household that it was difficult to communicate with the kids the importance of wearing enough layers before going outside; their brains were all a-sparkle with endless snow-filled possibilities like sledding and snowmen and icicle-pops. I believe we left the house before 8 (and that includes cooking and eating homemade pancakes for breakfast).

Shear Madness or Sheer Madness: Henry's first haircut

Shaggy is not a word often used to describe our folliclely challenged kids. However, Henry's forelocks were driving me crazy during our trip to Mexico, so shortly after we came home I decided it was time for a trim. He handled it without a single tear or head jerk.

Oh, and afterward we blew bubbles. Elizabeth got soapy water; Henry, milk. You'd understand if you had a two-year-old.
