Cookie of the Month: September - Browned Butter and Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

The kids' grandparents were in for a treat this month. A treat so special, they're going to tell their grandkids about it ... and not just because the grandkids baked them, but because they're good, people and want to ensure that humanity doesn't forget that there was a perfect taste once. A taste that hit the three main areas of your tongue AT THE SAME TIME. It was sugary, salty, and fatty ... like chocolate-covered pretzels or kettle corn, but better. A perfect trifecta. Yes, people, this month our little ones brought their grandparents the bold and yet delicate ... the crisp and yet moist ... the great-on-their own but still totally dippable Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie with Sea Salt.
A bit over-the-top? Probably. But I love these cookies and my passion will not be restrained! Seriously, I think science is behind me on this. Combining salt, sugar, and fat has got to put our brains into some sort of trance. Like putting the movie Frozen on in front of five-year-old girls. It's got singing princesses, a talking snowman, and just enough kid drama and kid humor to turn any little girl into a zombie for 90 minutes.

Hopefully these cookies won't turn anyone into a cookie-munching zombie, though.

The August edition of "At home in NYC"

It's September already? Yes, indeed. And tomorrow is the first day of school for Miss Elizabeth. So before any of those pictures make their way into this blog, as I'm sure they will, I wanted to wrap up the summer by showing you pictures from August "At home in NYC."

This little girl is mesmerized by an engaging performance of Robin Hood performed by a local troupe of actors
Henry ran 'on stage' at one point, ostensibly to become one of Robin's Merry Men, but really to boogie on down with his Shakespeare in the Park homies. (Yes, Robin Hood is not Shakespeare in the Park. Tell that to the organizers.)
After telling Elizabeth that I used to eat sunflower seeds from my Opa's sunflowers, she wanted to try. Luckily, we had a large sunflower in our backyard that was ripe.

Sir Henry at our first Brooklyn Cyclones (minor league baseball) team.
Elizabeth likes watching the screen instead of the game. She also enjoys hotdogs, long walks on the beach, and puppy breath.
Children are allowed to run the bases after the game. Our kids are following a full-grown man, who not only believes he is a child, but is also videotaping his run. He was apparently in a fantasy league.

We visited friends who recently bought a house in Easton, PA, and this shot (and another one just like it) is the only evidence we have. It looks a bit sad, but it was a very nice (and large) house in a wonderful neighborhood.
Elizabeth and her friend at the Renaissance Faire
And here's Sir Henry as Robin Hood (that's a bow he has; there's actually fishing line on it to make it more realistic)
Henry is raising his right hand to pledge his allegiance to (and become an honorary member of) the Merry Men
E and Maid Marian

A sudden rainstorm interrupted our 'last picnic of summer' plans, so we held it inside.
